10 reasons why you should not visit Lebanon

1. You will be forced to speak to people all the time

There’s one thing Arabs are really good at. Talking. Talk is cheap, and the Lebanese have taken it the next level. They are friendly, welcoming and talkative people, and they seem to be very happy to receive foreigners, anywhere in the country. Even if they don’t speak your language, or any language you might understand, they will keep on talking and asking you questions. You will be impressed how easy is to communicate in Arabic even if you do not know a single word.

Obviously, if you want to avoid this deeply touching experience, do not come to Lebanon.

In case you decide to go anyway, and you want to be ready for the cheap talk, check our “Basic Levantine Arabic for travelers”.

2. You will get fat

This is a fact. There are no diets, no restrictions, no limits. If you do not want to spend your trip eating the tastiest food you’ve ever had like there’s no tomorrow, then don’t go to Lebanon. Fattoush, Fatteh, Hummus and Manousheh are some of the names you will hear again and again, and honestly, you won’t get tired of them.

So, if you want to keep on with your bikini diet and stay fit, avoid this country.

However, if you decide to take the risk to lose your figure and you want to discover some of the traditional dishes you will face during your trip, check our guide to Middle Eastern cuisine: Lebanese culinary wonders

3. You will feel nostalgic at −almost deserted− idyllic historical beaches

You are too used to crowded beaches in the European Mediterranean and you do not feel like finding peace in the astonishing Mediterranean coast in Lebanon. We understand. Who would want to have a bath in Heaven on Earth?

Just in case you decide to take the risk, visit Batroun, Byblos (Jbeil), Damour, Jiyeh, Jounieh or Tyre (Sour), just to mention some of the best.

4. You will not be able to hit the road for hours

Everyone loves road trips. The longer the better.

If you want to spend hours stuck in the car to reach your destination, Lebanon is not the place for you. The longest trip you will be doing does not even reach the 3 hours ride between Tripoli (north of the country) and Tyre (south of the country).

5. You will get wasted

Believe it or not, in Lebanon they know how to party. Either with Arak, organic wine, craft beer or any other liquor, they start soon and finish pretty soon too.

Go somewhere else for your abstemious holidays, honestly. Lebanon is not the place for you if you’re not willing to experience.

6. You will get fat, seriously.

7. You won’t be able to use your long dresses and scarf

You do not want to go scarf shopping and you are not sure about the burkini tollerance in Lebanon. Stop presuming. Because there’s no need to cover yourself to walk around in a peaceful and respectful manner in this eclectic country.

If you are a woman and you are planning a trip to Lebanon, do not hesitate to bring your brand new bikinis and dresses. Only in some cult spots you will need to cover your legs and shoulders, just as any other cult place (from the Vatican to the Blue Mosque) so do not take it personal. The rest of the day, you can enjoy the lovely walks wearing whatever the weather allows you to (you might want to bring really light clothes if coming during the summer).

8. Your skin will look weird with that sexy tan

Golden skin. Freckles. Lighter hair. TERRIFYING. They might not even find out who you are from after that vast transformation.

If you  want to keep that pale zombie natural nude skin colour and  those badass sexy bags under your eyes, avoid the Middle East!

9. You will be heartbroken (several times)

No one wants to suffer in life. Life is already difficult enough for the additional trouble a crush brings along. In order to avoid a daily, constant, almost permanent crush on every hot Lebanese guy or girl crossing your way, cancel that ticket to Lebanon.

Keep your life simple.

10. You will be overwhelmed by nature

Lebanon is an amazingly beautiful and incredibly rich country you need to discover by your own, no matter what they say.

  1. U forget the garbage ,the bad traffic and the klaxons of the taxis or other cars for or without any reason, beach???? What are u talking about the most dirty beach in the area ,the most expensive,u better travel to Greece or Cyprus to spent few days on the beach, much better then spending 1 day and put all ur salary for nothing.

    1. You don’t need to spend a single dollar to access most of the mentioned beaches, which are pretty clean. Every country has its pros and cons to travel to but the combination of positive advantages you can find in Lebanon you will not find easily somewhere else. It’s a matter of perspective.

      1. i can see that you never left Lebanon……..go to Greece, Morocco, Thailand, Jamaica, and Tokyo. each travel not less than 15 days and not like Lebanese packages of few day who are ripoffs, then come back to Lebanon. look at Lebanon, where you have only one highway everyday traffic since the 90s and day by day going worse, beaches are heavily contaminated were some of it’s garbage reached to Turkey, the Food ( again not so good unless you pay some overpriced value were of half of it’s price you get the double and better offer outside), most polluted Air in the MEA ( don’t say no, we are seeing the cancer rates).
after you finish all of this, Re wright your article and your perspectives were you probably see trash-bags as coconuts despite the nightlife talking which is nothing compared to others…..
YOUR WRIGHTINGS ABOUT THIS ARTICLE ARE ALL LIES….

    2. Lebanon has a lot of problems. But it is a beautiful place that is in desperate need of help. More importantly our generation to help it. The government is horrific. But don’t blame your country for it. Trust me I’ve been to those countries and all around the world, but I still feel passionately that nothing and nowhere compares to Lebanon. If you still live there then you are amongst the luckiest 4 million in the world to live in such an incredible place.

  2. Lol really? Lebanon isn’t the place for you if you don’t drink and don’t wear skimpy clothing? What about the millions of Muslims in Lebanon and outside of it who can still have a great time in the country without doing either of those things? That was pretty tasteless of you.

    1. Only 2 of the 10 reasons were about drinking and skimpy clothing, check out the other 8. Plus even the “millions” of muslims in lebanon wear skimpy clothing and drink till they pass out. We’re the only country in the region that allows it ;). It was only tasteless of your part to only notice these two arguments.

    2. She is addressing the stereo types and trying to show that Lebanon isn’t as it is depicted to the rest of the world. No one said you have to drink or wear certain clothing, but that this country is not constrained and that you are able to express yourself in whatever way you choose, which isn’t that common in the middle east, hence the need to break certain stereotypes.
You shouldn’t be attacking this blog, you should be sharing it.

  3. It is true that we do not have the cleanest beached in the Mediterranean, and much needs to be done on cleaning up our garbage (starting with our politicians), our seas and rivers…and true that Greece, Turkey and others have magnificent beaches..yet, who does bring all the great action and atmosphere to Greece & Turkey? The Lebanese! Our “happy go lucky” attitude, our generosity and love for life (despite all that is happening around us) do make us unique in that aspect. We have much to do and much to be responsible for to make Lebanon “Green” again..Meantime, let us not give up on it..

  4. Totally agree with no.2 I was there for 3 weeks and gained 3kilos:-( and the funny thing is someone in the family kept eating rice and bread at the same time and telling me that she needs to lose weight. Disagree with no.9 most girls in Lebanon have gone through some sort of plastic surgery. Very few girls with natural beauty.
